Robert H. Dedman, Sr., Pinehurst

American businessman and philanthropist, Robert H. Dedman is known for his work as Founder and past Chairman of Dallas-based ClubCorp. Under his leadership ClubCorp's assests have grown with current ownership or management of more than 200 golf courses, country clubs, private business and sports clubs and resorts worldwide. Frudakis sculpted the 7-foot high bronze figure of Mr. Dedman created for Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina.

Plaque by sculpture reads:
"ROBERT H. DEDMAN founded ClubCorp in 1957 with a single country club in Dallas, Texas. Robert was a dedicated steward who strongly believed in preserving and enhancing the great traditions of golf. Under his leadership, ClubCorp became the world's leader in golf, private clubs and resorts. In 1984 ClubCorp acquired the "fallen angel" of Pinehurst and began extensive restoration to restore its grandeur. Mr. Dedman's dream of restoring championship golf to Pinehurst was realized with the 1999 U.S. Open. At the time of his death in August 2002, Pinehurst had already begun planning for
the return of the U.S. Open in 2005. Robert's passion for the rich heritage of American golf will be remembered by all who love the game."
